I tried something new today. One of the things on my list is learn to dance – I mean really dance. Like ballroom, Latin, that sort of dance. So I took a lesson today. I got a postcard in the mail a few weeks ago offering a free trial lesson, so I called and made the appointment. Half an hour, all by myself, with a cute (male) instructor. Life doesn’t get much better than that. I couldn’t wait to get there! We did the fox trot, rumba, and cha-cha. Let me tell you what a buzz this is – doing something I’ve always wanted to do, looking good doing it, feeling great – heart racing, face smiling, hips swinging. I am so stoked that I signed up for 3 more lessons!
So, what do you want to do? Skydive? Sculpt? Travel the world? Get organized? What’s holding you back? Money? Time? Other people? Fear? My advice is this: do one small thing that lets you taste the success of doing what you’ve always wanted to do. Find a way to do it for free. Set aside 1/2 an hour. Tell those other people that you need just a few minutes to yourself in order to keep your sanity. Do it scared. What’s the worst that could happen? You could feel foolish. You could lose money or waste time. What’s the best that could happen? You could feel empowered, strong, and alive, ready to take on the next challenge. As a Professional Organizer, I find that projects tend to take on a life of their own, once they are started. But you have to start. Be in it to win it!
Try something you’ve always wanted to do and tell me how it went. I can’t wait to hear about it!
